Jack O' Lantern

Create a Halloween lantern with stars for eyes,
the Christian fish symbol for a mouth, and a cross for
its nose. Then pass out the following poem (source  unknown)

Jack O' Lantern
I am a Jack O’ Lantern
My lights will shine so bright
For I’m a Christian pumpkin
My symbols tell what’s right
My nose is like the cross
On which our Savior died
To set us free from sin
We need no longer hide
My mouth is like a fish
The whole wide world to show
That Christians live in this house
And love their Savior so!
The story starts at Christmas
My eyes are like the star
That shone on Baby Jesus
And wise men saw from far
My color, it is orange
Just like the big bright sun
That rose on Easter Day
Along with God’s own Son
And so on Halloween
Let’s set our pumpkins out
And tell the trick or treaters
What God’s love is all about!

I Give Thee Thanks ...

For all the blazing sunsets of this year.
For all those precious children, Oh, so dear.
For small and insignificant things
And for the songs that my heart sings,

I give Thee thanks.
I give Thee thanks ...

For loved ones who forgive my failing ways.
For kindness done to me on dreary days.
For lessons learned without the awful pain.
For truth that comes with value, wisdom gained,

I give Thee thanks.
I give Thee thanks ...

For all the soldiers who are serving us.
For those who bear the blessed gospel trust.
For old acquaintances renewed.
For wonders clearly signed by You,

My Lord, I give Thee thanks.
Sweet Lord, I give Thee thanks.

Pray For Laborers

By: Cindy Wyatt

When Jesus saw the multitudes
He was moved with compassion
He cared about their souls
and wanted them to receive His salvation
Jesus saw the lost people scattered
as sheep without a shepherd
and calls upon you and me to tell them
of saving grace and His word
Jesus told us to look upon the fields
for they are ripe already to harvest
and to pray to the Lord
to send forth laborers to do their best
Since the harvest is plenteous
and the laborers are few,
pray that many would get a vision
to do what God calls them to,
to care about the people in the world
who are lost and dying in sin
to witness and take the gospel to them
for their eternal souls to win,
that many people will understand
the worth of one lost soul
and as they love and pray and share
another name will be added to Heaven's roll

Matthew 9:37-38 Then saith he unto his disciples,
The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few;
 Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that
he will send forth labourers into his harvest.

Matthew 9:37-38
 Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous,
 but the labourers are few; Pray ye therefore the Lord of the
harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.

"Pumpkin Prayer"

{cut off top of pumpkin}
Lord, open my mind so I can learn new things about you.

{remove innards}
Remove the things in my life that don’t please you.
Forgive the wrong things I do and help me to forgive others.

{cut open eyes}
Open my eyes to see the beauty you’ve made in the world around me.

{cut out nose}
I’m sorry for the times I’ve turned my nose at the good food you provide.

{cut out mouth}
Let everything I say please You.

{light the candle}
Lord, help me show your light to others through the things I do. Amen

Gospel Tracts:

Changing Leaves
The changing leaves of autumn colored brightly red and gold,
Also bring a warning of the coming winter cold.
As the wind is changing from the milder summer breeze,
You can feel the difference as it echoes through the trees.

As I shuffle down the path leading through the park,
As the days grow shorter now and soon it will be dark.
I realize that life is like the seasons we live through,
Life is like the changing seasons always changing too.

Basking in the warmth of life in the summer sun,
Never giving thought to when these summer days are done.
But before we realize the cold wind starts to blow,
And our basking summer sun turns colder with the snow.

Only then we realize that life has changed so fast,
Only then we realize that nothing ever lasts.
Life goes through the seasons as the years accumulate,
Many times we long for summer when it is too late.

Life is meant for living and enjoying each new day,
Life is meant for loving those you meet along the way.
Never spend your summer years just basking in the sun,
Unless each minute that you spend is with a special one.

People need each other to enjoy the trip through life,
A very special partner or a husband or a wife.
Alone you can enjoy the beauty that is everywhere,
But there is a special meaning when with someone you can share.

Life is like a changing tree with brightly colored leaves,
Your family and your friends and you can be compared to these.
In autumn when the leaves start changing colors, they will fall,
One by one until the branches have released them all.

If I be like a changing leaf among one of life's trees,
And all my friends and family were also such as these.
And autumn was not just for me as counted from my birth,
But autumn season spoken here was for the entire earth.

Then are we in the autumn season foretold from the past?
Could the colored leaves now falling be the very last?
Are the signs and wonders now upon us really true?
Or will there be another spring when all things will be new?

I as a single leaf will someday have my time to leave,
As those who went before me leaving me to sometime grieve.
But someday in that final autumn at the final call,
Should I still be clinging there when all the leaves will fall.

I only want to realize that in this autumn season,
I had a purpose in this would and my life had a reason.
To live and love and enjoy life for all that it is worth,
But only if the lives I've touched had meaning and a purpose.

No one knows whose life they touch or who they will embrace,
Just by actions that they do or being face to face.
But your life will be noticed as the brightly colored trees,
As either brilliant beauty or a pile of dried up leaves.

Reaping The Harvest
[© 2011 Cinda Marlene Carter]
~

The harvest truly is plentiful…

Many seek to fill their empty souls.

Empty inside,

Is there someone to answer their cry.

A cry for help…

To be delivered from sin and self.

Is there more to life?

Than meets the eye.

What is the answer, does anyone know?

Dear Jesus, lead the the way and show.

Show us the way we should go,

No longer to be tossed about to and fro.

We as the church…

Lord, give us a heart to search.

Searching to redeem the time,

Salted with the seasoning of Jesus Christ.

Let our light so shine…

In a world that Satan blinds.

The Sower plants the seeds of life,

They are watered by our Lord Jesus Christ.

Go tell it on the mountain…

That their is a fountain.

Where we will thirst no more,

Clear waters that gently flow.

From the living waters of the Holy Spirit…

We will thirst no more because of Jesus who was pierced.

Pierced in His side, for all mankind.

Jesus who freely layed down His life.

He saw what it would be like with a life without Him…

Doomed to a life to die in our sins.

When mankind sinned he lost his first state and fell,

We were doomed for an eternal life in hell.

Dear Lord, let us remain faithful to Your calling…

By planting seeds of Your Word in hearts who are wondering.

Wondering if there is anything more to this life at best.

While we plant His seeds, Jesus will be Reaping the Harvest.

Christian Games For a Pumpkin Harvest

Christian Games For a Pumpkin Harvestthumbnail
Kids can enjoy Christian games during harvest time.

Autumn is a time for kids to enjoy games centered
around the harvest. If parents desire an alternative
to traditional Halloween activities, there are many
Christian games and activities to plan and enjoy.
Offering a pumpkin harvest party with Christian
 games also provides parents with a supervised
 environment where they can share in the fun with their families.

Straw Maze Race
    • Pumpkins can be used for many different games.Jupiterimages/Brand X Pictures/Getty Images
      Straw bales can be purchased inexpensively and strategically placed to form a maze. Or you can plan a special field trip to a farm or cider mill that is open to the public and has straw bale mazes already set up. Divide students according to age and have adults time each student as they run as fast as they can through the maze. Award pumpkins as prizes to the fastest runners.

    Pumpkin Toss Game

    • Christians can find alternative activities during Halloween.Jupiterimages/Comstock/Getty Images
      Have an adult carve a large hole in a large pumpkin, then line the inside of the pumpkin with wax paper. Measure distances appropriate for different age groups and mark off with tape. Have participants throw tennis balls or bean bags into the pumpkin. This can be an individual event, or groups of students can be divided up into teams. Candy or pumpkins can be given as  prizes.

    Pumpkin Decortaing

    • Decorate pumpkins with various materials.Digital Vision/Valueline/Getty Images
      A harvest party is just not complete without decorating a pumpkin. Have kids paint a pumpkin with acrylic paints and craft materials such as glue, glitter and sequins. Center the theme around Bible stories such as an ark or a scripture verse. Have a team of judges vote on the most original, most creative and most colorful pumpkins and award prizes to the winners.

    Word Scramble Competition

    Genesis 1:29 Game

    • Include Scripture in harvest games.Jupiterimages/Brand X Pictures/Getty Images
      Tap into the gift of smell with a fun, weird science game. Place specific spices or herbs, slices of fruits and a pumpkin chunk in paper lunch bags. Fasten the bags and poke a small hole in the bag. Have participants smell each bag and try to correctly guess what's in the bag. Whoever guesses the most wins a prize.

A Harvest Performance Poem for Primary children by Angela Yardy.

HARVEST

The individual letters of the word HARVEST
 are held up by seven children.  At the beginning
 of each verse the children rearrange
themselves so that they are in an appropriate
 order for the bold words that follow.
The appropriate letters are held aloft
for each word, but lowered for the refrain.
Share the narration out however it suits,
 but the whole class/group of
children say the refrain together.

Order: HARVEST
We HAVE so much food here, we are fortunate
To be blessed with the best of this world
But just for a moment, let’s take time to think
Of all of the REST of this world.

                 Refrain……         Harvest’s a time to show that we care
To bring gifts of food to the table to share

Move the A:      HRVEAST
With food that is plentiful and VAST in range
Our harvest still isn’t complete
Without taking time to say thank you to God
For giving us all that we EAT.

Harvest’s a time to show that we care
To bring gifts of food to the table to share

Move the S:         SHRVEAT
Let’s thank God for HEAT from the sun up above
For the rain that God sends us for free
For vegetables, fruit, and for all things that grow
On the land and that swim in the SEA.

Harvest’s a time to show that we care
To bring gifts of food to the table to share

Move the T & A:         SHTARVE
We have so much food here, while some people STARVE
So let’s always try to behave
With gratitude, kindness, not hiding away
From people we should try to SAVE

Harvest’s a time to show that we care
To bring gifts of food to the table to SHARE
This thanksgiving moment just cannot be missed
To thank God for bringing this lovely…..
Move the S & T to the end……………..HARVEST

"Come, Ye Thankful People, Come"

Come, ye thankful people, come,
Raise the song of harvest home;
All is safely gathered in,
Ere the winter storms begin.
God our Maker doth provide
For our wants to be supplied;
Come to God's own temple, come,
Raise the song of harvest home.
All the world is God's own field,
Fruit unto His praise to yield;
Wheat and tares together sown
Unto joy or sorrow grown.
First the blade and then the ear,
Then the full corn shall appear;
Lord of harvest, grant that we
Wholesome grain and pure may be.
For the Lord our God shall come,
And shall take His harvest home;
From His field shall in that day
All offenses purge away,
Giving angels charge at last
In the fire the tares to cast;
But the fruitful ears to store
In His garner evermore.
Even so, Lord, quickly come,
Bring Thy final harvest home;
Gather Thou Thy people in,
Free from sorrow, free from sin,
There, forever purified,
In Thy garner to abide;
Come, with all Thine angels come,
Raise the glorious harvest home.
