The Extra Mile

The Extra Mile

updated for Thanksgiving

Go out and catch a turkey;
Ax its neck and kill.
Pluck off all its feathers;
For this evenings, special meal.

 Bring it in for roasting;
While I make the pie.
Grandma kept us busy;
We baked, we boiled, we fried.

Chicken dumplin’s, pumpkin pie,
Homemade, Grandma’s rolls,
Giblet Gravy, mashed potatoes,
Pudding in the bowls.

Grandma always told me,
The way to catch a man;
Was to feed him good food.
He’d love and ask your hand.

Now when, I’m fixin’ dinner;
I really try my best
When I serve it, to my man;
He knows, that he’s been blessed.

There are many blessings;
When serving much in love.
When you do your serving;
For Him who is above.

Serving is Christ likeness,
For though Great God is He,
He served imperfect man;
And died to set us free.

Under God’s Authority;
He humbly served His will.
Gave to us examples;
How to follow and to yield.

Submitting, even to the cross;
He died a servant of our King.
Yielded to Authority;
Even through much suffering.

Now when I face the things;
I do, from day to day.
I remember, be a servant;
Love, the Christian Way.

Humbly loving, serving others,
With a Godly happy smile.
Like my, dear grandmother;
Who always went, the extra mile.

THANKSGIVING:

THANKSGIVING
Susan Y Nikitenko
2011

Thanksgiving Is

A day of thanks unto God for the great bounty of not just the harvest,
But for the bounty of love that God has allowed us to know and enjoy.
It has been set aside to honor Him, remember Him and praise Him.

A day of feasting and celebration of family and
to acknowledge Gods graciousness to us.

We as a nation have not deserved the great blessings
bestowed by God Almighty.  His great creation itself rejoices and shouts
of His goodness.  For this blessing alone we should be thankful.

His provision, for us as a nation, has been
astounding in comparison to other nations.  Let us return to Him and rejoice
with thanksgiving to our great God, who will never leave His child comfortless.

Let us be thankful for the provision of daily need whether
physical emotional or spiritual.  The provision of His grace that enables us
to continue on each day.

Have not the trees produced their crop and the fields their corn?
While others live in a barren waste and beg their bread?

 Still many dare to shake their fist at God while God
has been overly patient with this country.
Have not the spoiled of our country cried
the loudest in their complaints and bit the hands that fed them?

Let our thanksgiving be of a true heart,  living a life that exemplifies
our gratefulness by our obedience to God.
A nation that forgets God and forsakes His commandments
will not go unpunished.

Lord help us to love you more and truly realize how good you are.
Help us to see how wonderfully blessed we are in this country.
Your blessings are numberless.

Let us fear what we allow to pass through our lips and
cause them to be filled with praise and thanksgiving.

Oh Lord I pray, that this country doesn't have to
suffer tremendous loss in order to see how good we really had it.
The old saying stands true,  you really don't know what you have
until it's gone.  Once it's gone we'll realize we should have been grateful.

Let us be grateful.
Let our hearts be filled with  true thankfulness.
Let us rejoice in God's  immeasurable blessings.
Gods provision and His grace upon  this beautiful country,
 America,  our home.

Thank You, God.
Thank You.

Being enriched in every thing to all bountifulness, which causeth through usthanksgiving to God.

Giving Thanks ~ Thanksgiving Day

    by Ron Tranmer

The table is set for our thanksgiving feast
and all have taken their place
The meal of the year, is finally here,
and oh, how great it will taste..

Potatoes and gravy and cranberry sauce,
and rolls that are made fresh and hot.
Turkey with stuffing, right out of the oven.
Pumpkin pie that hasn't been bought.

Our family is anxiously gathered around
in a circle of love hand in hand.
A scene reminiscent of thanksgivings past.
A tradition we all understand.

Dad offers a prayer of thanksgiving to God
for abundance of blessings we share.
Tears touch his cheeks as he humbly gives thanks
for much more than the food that is there.

Though stomachs are empty, each heart is full
while united as family we pray.
Thanking dear God for His wonderful love,
and our blessings this Thanksgiving Day.

When this day is gone and life carries on,
may gratitude live on in me.
Lord help me, I pray, to make every day
a day of thanksgiving to Thee.

Courage to Dream Again

October 2010
   Susan Y Nikitenko

Angels spread their wings;
To keep the snow from falling.
But the chilling winds;
Announce that winters calling.

The leaves have fluttered;
And tossed they swirl gently down.
While in the distance;
Geese call that familiar sound.

Sadness fills a heart;
When it seems a dream has failed.
When all leaves of hope;
Are gone and losses bewailed.

Sometimes dreams will die;
And sorrows bring the tears.
But trusting Jesus;
Relieves a heart chilled with cares.

God is in control;
Of both winter and the spring.
Of the Autumn rains;
And heartaches transforming sting.

We must die to self;
For God's purpose shall prevail.
He works for our good;
though we are sinful and frail.

Cold winds fill the sky;
Nature builds a warm embrace.
A place of comfort;
A sheltering hiding place.

Where do we find warmth;
In the bitter rains of loss?
Jesus is that place;
Of comfort, He bares our cross.

Though heartache will come;
Though winter winds whip and whirl.
And our soul cries out;
As we witness a dreams burial.

Remember the Spring;
Where new dreams and hopes are born.
Miracles of grace;
Arising from the fallen corn.

Seeds, of Truth and Life;
Tended with the Father's hand.
Watered with His love;
Brings courage to dream again.

So Blest! ~ Joan Clifton Costner

So Blest

So blest! So blest!

With scarlet sunset in the skies -
Birds that sing on wing so high,
The fragrance of the flowers, sweet;
And precious people that we meet.

So blest! So blest!

When music swells my heart within -
An old familiar lasting hymn;
When tiny heads are bent - hands clasp
And little voice our blessings ask.

So blest! So blest!

Simple pleasures seem much more
When we approach Eternity’s door -
Each day our hearts can thankful be
For blessed hours spent with Thee.

So blest! So very blest to be

Born in a land that’s brave and free;
Born to a family loving Thee.
The things I could not choose, but do -
Born with a heart for loving You.

So when at last, I lay me down
I’ll rise and see my robe and crown -
A Crystal Sea ...and Jasper walls...
I won’t mind coming home at all

For I have been... so blest! So blest!

Psalms 30:12
 To the end that my glory may sing praise to thee,
 and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks unto thee for ever.

For This we Give Thee Thanks ~ Joan Clifton Costner

For This We Give Thee Thanks

For hands that reach and touch our own,
For baby's laughter in our home,
For shoulders that in grief are loaned,
Dear Lord, we give You thanks.

For lips that brave the tender words,
For eyes that speak what can't be heard,
For God's own precious Holy Word,
Dear Lord, we give You thanks.

For open doors and welcomings,
For friends who laugh and sometimes sing,
For everything each season brings,
Dear Lord, we give You thanks.

For large or small, the gifts You give,
For just the privilege to live,
For all we've had and yet You give,
Dear Lord, we give You thanks.

For promises that soon shall be,
Because He hung upon the tree,
For Love that lasts eternally,
Most of all, Lord, thanks, oh, thanks!

and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High:

My Thanks ~ Joan Clifton Costner

My Thanks

Across the seas, in lands beyond,
The saints and martyrs glow.
How can I stand before your face
With those who suffered so?

When I've forgotten e'en to pray
For them for days ~~ for weeks;
And I have suffered nothing
For the kingdom that I seek.

What joy 'twould be to clasp the hand
Of one who stood for You;
Nor ere denied one single word
Of Yours they knew 'twas true;

But can my eyes e'er look in theirs?
(For they have given all) ~~
And I, who could, can scarcely seem
To speak Your name at all.

Oh, God! I can but wonder ~~
For I love those saints so true, ~~
I've never suffered for Your sake,
But, Lord, I love You too.

Help me, gracious Lord, to do
And say the things I should;
To stand for right and ne'er deny
One portion of Thy word.

One glorious day we'll stand before
Thy throne and see Thy face;
Hand in hand we'll marvel at
The wonder of Your grace.

Thank You, Lord, that time will be
Measured never more;
And I can take eternity
To thank those I adore!

Psalms 18:49
Therefore will I give thanks unto thee, O LORD,
among the heathen, and sing praises unto thy name.

Fighting Mosters ~ Joan Clifton Costner

Fighting Monsters

When you go to fight a monster - watch the tail - but aim up high,
For if you kill the monster’s head, the rest will surely die.
There are monsters all around us that we fight time and again;
Just when we think we’ve beaten them, they raise their heads again.
“Liquor by the drink!” they cry, “It’s safe for all this way!”
Yet I doubt the drunken driver would have brewed his own that day.
It’s so handy - so appealing - “Get your gas and gusto too!
Pop it in you car and hope the cops don’t catch up with you!”
We defeat them...but they come again, ‘til our arguments worn and old;
(But it’s just as true as ever); our opponents are young and bold...
So we let down just a little and the devil takes his cue;
A crash on the highway reminds us of the things we didn’t do.
And the victims of the monster are in graves or put away -
Rehabilitated and trained to fight the monster again one day.
So few of them win, for the monster’s game is unfair and a lethal lie,
As statistic show in black and white, by the numbers of warriors who die.
When will we learn this battle is real? We must do all that can be done!
For the monster’s food is alive and beloved - the monster eats our young!
So a nation born for freedom decays from deep within,
Because our future is our youth ... and they are steeped in sin.
Are all the David’s polluted? Are all the Stephen’s smashed?
Where are our Daniel’s and Joseph’s? Is everyone smoking hash?
Don’t say it doesn’t matter, for history’s already changed;
Nobody knows how one young life, world history might rearrange.
For if Ike or Abe or Einstein had been buried in his youth -
If Hitler or Lenin or Stalin had ... Can’t you see this truth?
Oh, God! Help us not to stay idle and watch as a monster devours
The young, the future America ; the land that used to be ours!
